No, you cannot get into a London club without ID. Every licensed club in London is 18 and over, the door checks photographic identification before anyone goes in, and no table booking, guestlist place or age you appear to be changes that. Below is what the door accepts, what it refuses, and what to do if you realise your ID is still at home.

Let us sort your guestlist or VIP table. It's free.
We arrange table bookings and guestlists across London every week, and this is the same advice we give every client before they arrive.
The Short Answer: No ID, No Entry
London nightclubs are licensed premises, and selling alcohol to anyone under 18 is against the law. Venues in Mayfair and Soho also run age-check policies as a condition of their licences. Westminster Council, which licenses most of the West End, tells young people that if you are under 25 you may be asked to prove your age in pubs and clubs under its Think 25 policy. In practice, club doors ask almost everyone, because a door team that waves people through on looks alone puts the venue's licence at risk.
That is why looking old enough is not a substitute for ID, and why a group with one person missing ID will usually be held at the rope while it is sorted out. It applies to the host of a table as much as to the guests.
Which ID London Clubs Accept
The safest documents to bring, as of October 2026, are:
- A valid passport. Accepted everywhere, and the one to bring if you are visiting from abroad.
- A UK photocard driving licence. Widely accepted. Provisional photocard licences are treated less consistently, so check with us before relying on one.
- A proof-of-age card carrying the PASS hologram. Westminster Trading Standards supports the Proof of Age Standards Scheme, and PASS cards are recognised proof of age in licensed venues.
Whatever you bring must be the original, physical document, it must be in date, and the photograph must clearly be you. If you are travelling on a foreign national ID card or a foreign driving licence, acceptance varies by venue, so read our guide on whether London clubs accept foreign IDs before you go out.
What Gets Refused at the Door
- Photos of your ID on a phone. A picture of a passport is not a passport. Door staff cannot check the security features of a screen image, and they will not try.
- Photocopies. Refused for the same reason.
- Expired documents. Treat an expired passport or licence as no ID at all. Some doors are stricter than others, but there is no venue where it is a safe bet.
- Student cards. A university or college card is not proof of age, and we cover why in can you get into a London club with a student ID.
- Documents without a photograph, such as a birth certificate or a bank card. They cannot show that the person at the door is the person named on them.
- Someone else's ID. Door teams compare the photograph and the date of birth with the person standing in front of them. A borrowed or altered document is the quickest way to be refused, and for anyone under 18, trying to buy alcohol is itself an offence.
Digital ID: Do Not Rely on It
Whether London clubs accept digital ID is one of the most common ID questions, and the honest answer is that you should not rely on it. Whether a digital proof of age is accepted is a decision for each venue, and a door that does not accept it will simply refuse entry, with no appeal on the night. Our advice, as of October 2026, is the same for every booking: carry the physical passport, licence or PASS card, and treat anything on your phone as a backup at most.
If You Have Forgotten Your ID
If you realise before you leave that your ID is missing, go back for it. That is the only reliable fix. If you are already on your way, tell us as early as possible: we can let the venue know your group is running late, though whether a table is held past its arrival window is the venue's call, not ours.
What we cannot do is get anyone in without ID. A venue that admits a guest who cannot prove their age is taking a risk with its licence, and no reputable door will take it for a booking service. Anyone who promises you otherwise is not worth trusting with your night.
Under 18? There Is No Way In
Some of the searches that lead to this page are for clubs that do not check ID. In London's licensed clubs, that is not a gap to look for: the legal minimum is 18, many venues set their own minimum higher, and we do not book anyone under 18 under any circumstances. The full picture on age limits, including the venues that run a 21+ door, is in our guide to the age limit for clubs in Mayfair.
Does a Table Booking or Guestlist Change the ID Rules?
No. A table booking changes how you are received at the door, because the venue knows who is coming and the group is expected. It does not change the ID check. Every person in the party must be 18 or over and able to prove it on arrival. The same applies to a London club guestlist: the names on the list are checked against ID, and a name on a list is not proof of age.
When we arrange a booking, we confirm the ID rules for that venue along with the arrival time and dress code, so the door is a formality rather than a surprise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get into a club in London without ID if you look over 25?
No. London clubs check ID at the door as a condition of their licences, and most ask everyone rather than judging by appearance. Looking older than 25 does not replace a valid passport, photocard driving licence or PASS card.
Do London clubs accept a photo of your passport on your phone?
No. A photograph or scan of a document on a phone is not accepted, because the door cannot check its security features. Bring the original passport or licence.
Can you use an expired ID to get into a club in London?
You should assume not. Many London doors refuse expired passports and licences outright, and none treat them as a safe option, so renew the document or bring a different valid one.
Can you use a birth certificate to get into a club?
No. A birth certificate has no photograph, so it cannot show that you are the person named on it. Clubs ask for photographic ID such as a passport, photocard driving licence or PASS card.
Will a table booking get me in if I have forgotten my ID?
No. A table booking does not override the ID check, and every guest must prove they are 18 or over. If you have forgotten your ID, going back for it is the only reliable fix, so tell us early if you will be late.
If your group has the right ID and you want the night arranged properly, send us the date, the number of guests and the kind of venue you are after, and we will handle the table booking or guestlist from there. You can also message us on WhatsApp.
